This machine has a pressurized portafilter. They pull shots faster than a
standard portafilter.
Timing the shots with this type of portafilter is irrelevant.
if ur pullin a double shot in 15 secs,,, then thts too fast,, i have the
same machine and wat u might want to try is tampering a wit a bit more
weight,, also,, the grind might be too corse,, u might want to try grinding
it a bit more fine hope that helps,,
What is the point of this video?
I have the same machine , and no matter what I do , the shot takes up to 15
seconds . I’m not sure why that would be a bad thing , the taste and crema
are great anyway . Finer grind and strong tamp can stop the flow and maybe
damage the guts
Enjoy your brew? i’m sorry, this is probably the worst coffee video ever.
people need to do research on how to properly pull espresso shots. pretty
much everything the guy did was so very wrong. a 10 second shot?! comon
Sorry dude, this doesn’t look so great…extracting too fast and will be
watery. I have this machine and use a good conical burr gringer (Ascaso).
You need a finder grind to build more back-pressure.
@piyoxoxo the thumping noise is the pressure building up for the machine to
work and ‘pump’ the water, and although present while texturing milk using
the steam wand, shouldn’t be as loud as when you pull the shot.
Are you using the standard pressurized basket? Apparently these go much
better with a fresh grind and non pressurized basket.
I’ve had this machine for 18months. works well, although so far no “latte
art” 🙁 Here’s a couple of things I’ve picked up: You should try grinding
fresh beans (2-5 days old). heaps of options online, if not locally, i like
“blue bottle” and “sweet marias”. Even with a $10 blade grinder fresh
ground beans will taste way better! Also, go grab the cheapest beans from
the supermarket and play with the grind/tamp levels until you get
1-1.5onces in 25secs (it’ll seem slow). cheers 🙂
Normally you’d be correct, djveed, but a 30 lb tamp (a metal tamp is
overkill) with a dual wall pressurized pf that this Breville uses would
stop water flow & damage it with too much back pressure on the group head.
Since the dual wall chamber makes the crema a light 10 -15 lb tamp & a
slight polish is more than sufficient. Of course, grind, freshness, and
machine may vary results. But NO heavy tamp, please! It’s not a non-ppf
like Rancilio Silvia or Gaggia which both need heavy metal tamping.
The guy you see on the video just got a Breville Grinder and he his very
happy with it.
@lukewarm711 it’s cheaper but you should be able to pull a 20-25 second
shot if you get your variables right. Buy fresh beans and grind them
finely. Brevilles are less forgiving than other machines. Using a non
pressurised basket can help and putting in the right amount of coffee in
too.
its a little noisy and i just ordered one 🙂 im worried about the noise, is
it really bad?
Well done, it’s very informative
Sry, but this is a verry bad vid
I have both the Cafe Roma and the Roma mill. Unless the grind is SUPER
fine, the shot runs too fast…like 10 – 15 sec! The mill simply doesn’t
grind fine enough. I will be replacing it. With a super fine grind, the
machine works delightfully

ok it’s all water you cafe you never tap the coffee twice…. i dont think
you know how to use your machine
Cool 🙂 I like the view of the crema at the end. These Cafe Roma machines
are apparently quite a good price to value on the semi-automatic espresso
machine market.
In this particular demo, we used the pressurized portafilter that come with
the machine. It is not recommended to use in combination a pressurized
basket and a pressurized portafilter, which will build too much pressure
and your espresso will have a burned taste. Thanks
@liquidfire56 I know exactly what you mean.. but to be fair it’s hard to
get a slow well extracted brew with a machine like this.. it’s cheaper for
a reason..
Gah, you didn’t show how long it took to pull the shot. I’m using the same
machine and trying to figure out whether my pull is too quick. I’m pulling
a shot in about 15 seconds, which I think is too fast. And you should
consider getting a grinder, I just got the Breville burr grinder and it
completely changed my coffee. I can now dial in the grind for each bean,
which varies surprisingly much. And my crema is about 300x better. And as
someone else said, you might want to tamp a bit harder.
For $200 it’s a great machine , I use the Virtuoso grinder ($200) and all
kinds of beans . No matter how fancy the package , the local roaster dude
is far better and cheaper . For best shots , use the small basket , loaded
to the max , and don’t pull more than 2 Fl oz .
Thank-you for this video, I have one and I absolutely love it. However,
this is my first espresso machine and I was unsure whether or not this
machine is suppose to make that loud noise when brewing the espresso. You
video confirms that this is the case for this unit. Despite the noise
during brewing and the thumping when frothing milk, I would still highly
recommend it!
i just bought the same machine, i just dont know how to froth milk can you
please tell me or put a video up please.. Thank you!!!
