Great video and advice!

Derrick Warren says:

Good informative video! That plug to our left of the gaggia is slightly
terrifying though!

calneto says:

Good video, but will there not be water with detergent being diverted back
to the water tank by the opv valve? It seems that after backflushing, one
needs to discard the whole load of the water tank. That or make sure that
the hose that comes from the opv valve is not inserted in the tank.

alextgreen says:

Likewise, same machine here… …and am using it with your coffee to boot.

Pat Beretta says:

how often would you do this on a machine that makes (avg) 4 coffees a day?

david evans says:

Hi are you sure cafiza is safe for aluminium boiler? read elsewhere carfiza
wasn’t safe for aluminium and the gaggia has an aluminium boiler. I left
some aluminium foil for 5 mins in cafiza soloution as an experiment and it
stripped the shine off the foil completely in that time. Try it yourself.
UrnexBrand do you have an opinion? Guy in the video sure it works well in a
coffee shop with a brass boiler etc. but not sure I trust your opinion on
this one, but I’m no expert.

chris says:

Glad you liked it! have a few more videos still to edit & post. Im hoping
my presentation skills will improve over time 🙂

boskoandhoney says:

Awesome video! Thank you! Will this technique solve “un-even coffee flow”?
I get un-even coffee in my 2 cups and often have to MOVE one cup left or
right as the flow can at times miss one cup completely!

Jackie Piermont says:

Great to know I’ve been doing it right! Loving the videos – thanks Chris.

chris says:

Good question. Quite simple, just remove the tank and give it a good clean
out with some hot soapy water. I don’t think it’s possible to clean inside
the rubber tubes, but I wouldn’t worry too much, the heat of the machine
should kill any bacteria.

Giorgio P. says:

descaling and backflushing are 2 ways to clean your machine and you can
choose one of them?

chris says:

Maybe once a week, maybe two weeks. You’ll know if you’ve left it a long
time by the colour of the flushing agent coming out.

Em Elke says:

Instead of Cafiza or expensive cleaning tablets try denture cleaning
tablets. I have a Sunbeam EM6910 (love it) and use a home brand version of
the tablets. These cost be around $5 for 48 tabs as opposed to $25 for 8.

ParkerLiberty says:

Because Cafiza is the most dangerous chemical you would find in any coffee
shop, I imagine it’s probably not sold to just anyone on the street

JJR says:

Hi, nice video there, very infomative. I have a short question regarding
backflushing, accidental backflushing actually. What happens if I leave all
3 switches on with the steam knob tightened? All for around 5 seconds, I
switched it off immediately after I heard pump noise going low and noticed
there was no water coming out of the brewhead. Will it be a usual backflush
or did I actually do somethng wrong damaging to the machine?

Jackie Piermont says:

Take the tank out, give it a good wash, add some weak disinfectant (baby
milton steriliser) before replacing it in the machine. Add water just above
the fill line, ensuring all parts of the pipes are submerged. Leave for 20
mins, remove full tank of water (don’t run through the machine). Let pipes
drain, then rinse them by filling the tank with clean water. Pour away,
refill and flush the machine as usual cleaning routine. Nothing growing in
my pipes now! Safe for baby – safe for coffee!

cqinno says:

How long have you been using the machine? It is possible that the solenoid
valve has become stuck in position by coffee oilrs (if it has not been back
flushed for a long time).

Giorgio P. says:

backflushing and descaling are two ways to clean your machine and you can
choose one of them?

chris says:

Use Cafiza for backflushing, not descaling 🙂

Kathrin Garschall says:

Great work – very helpful. Do you have any suggestions on how to clean the
water tank, tubes etc? Something’s been growing in there for a while… :/
Thank you!

dave2402 says:

I’m having trouble priming my Gaggia Baby Class, so a little video on that
would be awesome! Looking at your flow rate when you were washing out after
the 1st backflush, I must have something clogged because I get little more
than a steady drip.

UrnexBrand says:

using it! Also, if you still need help finding Cafiza or any of our
