The day has come! We finally received our demo production model of Breville’s new double boiler espresso machine. We go through all of its features, function…
Can you offer any insight on boilers…. stainless vs. brass?
As far as i see the descaling thing is the only problem this machine has.
I just bought this machine because I love lattes but I’ve never made
espresso before and thought this would make it a little easier compared to
some other machines; turns out it’s still pretty hard for a newbie. With
the amount of coffee that the manual recommends (after tamping) I find it
VERY difficult to lock the portafilter in place. Like, I seriously need to
hold the machine on one side while I force the portafilter into place. I’m
guessing that means I’m using too much coffee, right? If I use less and the
portafilter goes in easily I get like a 12 second shot. Any suggestions?
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought you needed some minerals in your
water to make a great tasting espresso shot? So having to use a filter
every time because you cannot descale the machine your self could be a down
side. What do you guys think?
I’m looking to either get the Dual Boiler or the Oscar but can’t decide
which. The Oscars steam looks so much stronger than the DB but the dual
boiler looks so nice.
Have you lovely ladies seen the new Oracle?
It’s like the Dual Boiler and the Barista Express had a baby! I’d buy if I
didn’t have a Smart Grinder.
Ok, works for me.
@RogerR3x Cool — thanks for sharing your feedback! That fingerprint thing
is the story of all brushed stainless IMHO — and actually why I’m really
not a fan of it myself. – Kat
Hope I’m not bothering about this, but I was wondering if they had given an
ETA on this since the release of their other updated models like the
BES870XL?
I see this all the time on several of their machines; on our demo models,
it doesn’t seem to mean a different flavor in the end shot, so I was
wondering if it was a basic gauge calibration issue that isn’t functionally
affecting the shots? How do the shots taste now? – Kat
@jasonhilton The boiler is definitely smaller than other double boilers on
the market, with steam boilers that are generally twice the size of this
one. – Kat
Definitely — the grinder is the most important; as much as you can spend
there, the better. – Kat
@SeattleCoffeeGear Idk if the term early adopter is a 100% fit when there
are proven substitutes to this machine. It’s a new price point perhaps, and
maybe in the future Breville will do good things for home espresso. Funny
thing, this machine came up in conversation I had with some industry folks
just recently.
This machine includes it in the overall shot time; same as the CC1 – Kat
@SeattleCoffeeGear I agreed earlier companies can change (Hyundai), but I’d
rather not be the test pilot trying to see whether the plane is going to
crash. I’ll let others take that ride.
@joeldamianicigan Do I ever say that? Nope! Everything has got good and
bad, so you need to decide if it works for you 🙂 – Kat
i had a Breville it was peace a company that makes bleanders dont no
anything about macking esppross machines would not buy this ive got
rancillio silvia v3 best machine in the world
Ah, the Barista Express! Yes 🙂 Glad to hear you’re diggin’ it 😀 – Kat
Yay!!! Easy fix 😀 – Kat
@aesonvirus I’m having the same conversation below.
Nothing firm, but they have been saying late summer / early fall. We don’t
have a confirmation from them yet, though. – Kat
ok, Sam. Thanks lot for your answer. It is a shame.
@joeldamianicigan Hahaha – cool. Yeah, you probably can hack something
together but there is nothing manufacturer created – Kat
For anyone wondering the machine is sold under the name Gastroback 42636 in
the EU, though I can’t find a place that ships one yet.
@ZwiebackDK Oh… My… God…. Man thanks so much! ! I spent hours and
days looking for solutions and the machine in Europe.. You are my hero!!!
I don’t love the grinder on the BE, so I would probably still go for a
standalone … the Infuser or the Silvia or the CC1 are all good choices,
plus you can pick up an awesome grinder for the leftover money in your
budget. – Kat
@joeldamianicigan Nothing in the pipeline about it although we have
requested…so we’ll see. – Kat
This is designed as a home appliance so has components that won’t stand up
to that kind of wear and tear. I’d recommend taking a look at the Nuova
Simonelli Oscar, which is NSF rated and constructed with commercial parts.
For your budgets / purpose, it would be a great fit, but definitely do use
a water treatment system or filtered water. – Kat
Nice look-see at the new Breville!
Are you saying that this is the machine to purchase now?
@joeldamianicigan No bottomless PF yet; the shots are good, the steaming
function is not as powerful as on the larger boiler machines. – Kat
Well, it definitely sounds like you have found the machine that is right
for you! And that’s all any of us can ask for, right? Have fun with your
Silvia 🙂 – Kat
Wow, this is a really nice machine and the price ( ~1200 US) is very
competitive as well. This is the first machine that I have ran into after
my Rocket purchase that makes me think I would rather have this one (in the
same price range that is).
bring the spout a lot closer to the espresso/milk when you start wiggling
the jug. if its too high, you wont get any art. 🙂
I’d probably go with this guy – Kat
@renix Ha – OK; I am just speaking from my own practical experience in the
tech industry for the last 20 years, no curves involved – Kat
Awesome thanks, that was going to be my next question would it be better to
get a cheaper machine and a nice grinder. By the way I love your videos
have been watching them for a while 🙂
Sorry to say, it is! Not that the Silvia is a bad machine, but it is a
single boiler so there are some performance differences. – Kat
I think they have some hits and some misses, but they are refocusing on
their coffee products which is exciting to us 🙂 Their new CEO is super
into coffee so has tasked the team with upping their game in this regard,
which is cool 🙂 – Kat
Their next model?! Any word on when that might be and what it’ll be like?
no is dont peace crap no bettor then silvia no way
Thank you! Hope it was helpful for you, too 🙂 – Kat
Also it would be great to have a video of you and Gail trying out different
preinfusion times and pressures!! Keep up these great videos!!
I am looking at purchasing the Breville Dual Boiler ASAP and am curious if
there is a new version of this product coming out soon? I know that you
have said that “It’s going to be sometime later this year” was this for the
Dual Boiler or was the Barista Express the new product mentioned?
OK I just got this Lamborghini.. this is a winner by all means!!
Sorry we do not ship espresso machines outside the U.S. ~sam
