Superautomatics grind, tamp and extract differently than traditional espresso machines, but it is possible to tweak the parameters of the shot to achieve one…

Nooo, I already own the MoccaMaster, also a Senseo. I am asking if “coffee
plain like” can be achieved with the Xelsis. If so, how would you surgest
to achieve this? It’s a bit strange, paying pretty much for a machine if it
can’t somehow make a cup of coffee but only all the “fancy” stuff? …see,
I don’t now enough about these machines πŸ™‚ Also, if it runs out of water.
When refilled, will it finish the brewing?

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita Awesome! And yes — once we figure out how to drive Gail’s car
over the Atlantic, we’ll be there πŸ˜‰ – Kat

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita Have you adjusted the grind setting? That’s going to be a big
element in shot quality. If you can get your hands on a medium roast
espresso blend, that’s your best bet – Kat

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita I am not a superauto fan — I prefer the better shot you get
from a traditional machine, but you can’t beat the convenience! The Xelsis
in the US also has a traditional steam wand, so you can get excellent milk
from it and I dig that. I wish we could open a shop in Copenhagen πŸ™‚ I
would definitely sign up to run it πŸ™‚ – Kat

kragier says:

@SeattleCoffeeGear Heeheehee!

watcherjohnny says:

@SeattleCoffeeGear I love you Kat!! (and I’m quite sure that this little
episode of censorship will haunt your evil conscience for some time to
come)!

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@watcherjohnny No I think it’s the opposite — I was cranky because I
hadn’t had enough! πŸ˜€ – Kat

HelleRita says:

thanks for all your answers πŸ™‚ So me being lasy will buy the Saeco Xelsis
πŸ™‚

HelleRita says:

Hmm, not sure. Because I am not sure what it means literally (sorry)

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@watcherjohnny I am far from puritanical — just didn’t think that the
comment was appropriate for the video, that’s all. – Kat

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita Ah; well I was wondering why you were searching for coffee or
milk lengths — if you were trying to find out how much coffee and milk to
use for different drinks – Kat

HelleRita says:

efficient … πŸ™‚ Was looking though some of your videos, but couldn’t find
any where you brew a large cup of plain coffee. Do you have any videos
where you show just that?

kragier says:

@kragier B-b-but! o.o

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@watcherjohnny Hey! Now it’s getting personal πŸ˜‰ – Kat

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@watcherjohnny 1st amendment rights don’t apply to SCG content! πŸ˜‰ Sorry, I
think you actually just caught me in a cranky mood. For anyone reading this
who is interested, the comparison was between coffee pucks and bear feces.
And it was more clever than the usual drivel I delete, so you do have that.
πŸ˜€ – Kat

HelleRita says:

Hi Kat and Gail I just ordered it. Should get it in two days πŸ™‚ I REALLY
can’t thank you enough. I almost seen all the videos where Saeco is in.
Also all about beans. Man – I learned a lot. The first attempts It will
probably end as Gail says … “sacrifice, sacrifice…” *lol* Keep up the
good work. And remember … roadtrip = Denmark next

mcowen0 says:

It’s good to know that the Xelsis can handle the finest grinder setting. My
takeaway is that the best settings for the Xelsis are finest grinder,
highest dose, and 1 oz shot. What do you all think about the pre-infusion
settings? Can the SBS be used to dial in the timing on the shot (25 seconds
for example)? Thanks! BTW, you should have this video on the “related
videos” tab on the main Xelsis product page at SCG so that it’s easier to
find for people who are researching this machine.

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@mcowen0 Thanks for the suggestion – we’ll add to the Related Videos
section. You can’t really use SBS to control the shot timing, and the
timing is always going to be a little faster on superautos than on a
traditional machine, so you aren’t going to be able to dial it in
specifically for that timeframe. Also keep in mind that finest setting =
bad for dark / oily beans πŸ™‚ – Kat

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita Ah, yes — if you do the double push, then you are doing two
complete brew cycles, definitely! Since you said ‘one go’ I thought you
meant one button push, and that is not for a double shot. Not all of the
Saeco machines allow for the double button push right away, but their newer
machines do. – Kat

HelleRita says:

Hi Kat. Hmm, that’s strange. I have always pushed twice – and then … a
large mug is full? The dispaly is saying, as I recall, “double…”
something. Does that not caount for “coffee” LOL, or is that thinned
expresso *sorry for my lousy english πŸ™‚

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita The Xelsis we have in the US does, so I’m assuming this one
would, too πŸ™‚ – Kat

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita Or are you just more efficient than I am? πŸ˜€ – Kat

HelleRita says:

Hope this one does: Xelsis HD8943/21. Do you know if it does support double
push and would you buy one? Or should I look for another brand? πŸ™‚ ps:
thanks for all the great videos

watcherjohnny says:

@SeattleCoffeeGear Enough what? (Sorry in advance).

kragier says:

Ewwww… YouTube fight! >:O Don’t make me defend myself! :3

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita You can make ‘long coffees’ on all of these machines, which
would be a shot + water so it’s not the same as a traditional drip prep as
it doesn’t have the same saturation time or caffeine levels. But an
‘Americano’ is easy to achieve with all of these. Most of these have water
sensors so it would warn you of a low water before you started brewing. If
you somehow ran out mid-brew, it would stop completely and you’d restart it
new after you refilled the water – Kat

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita We do reviews of regular drip coffee makers frequently – the
Technivorm, the Capresso models, the new Breville YouBrew .. is that what
you’re looking for? – Kat

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@watcherjohnny Ha, yes I am evil. And feces is a little bit more
‘scientific’ than ‘scat’. My apologies to the YT community who have been so
egregiously deprived! πŸ™‚ – Kat

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@mcowen0 A bit — it just applies more or less pressure, which really kind
of aerates the coffee less or more. You can’t turn it totally off, but you
can turn it down. – Kat

watcherjohnny says:

@SeattleCoffeeGear Quit drinking SO MUCH COFFEE – that’s how!!! You’re OVER
CAFFEINATED Kat!! That’s why you deleted my comment this morning!!

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@watcherjohnny How will I be able to sleep?!?!?!?!?!?!? – Kat

mcowen0 says:

@SeattleCoffeeGear Is SBS sort of like a pressurized portafilter that you
can turn on and off? Thanks!

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita It definitely varies! For Saeco, we see a lot of the more
plastic machines in with broken parts, etc. Then some of them have steam
valve weirdness that usually comes up during the warranty period. But 80%
of all our repairs are because of lack of maintenance so….it’s hard to
give any defect numbers πŸ˜€ – Kat

HelleRita says:

Would you buy one? I mean, is is worth the money? Thanks .. again and again
for your answers πŸ™‚ ps: please open a shop in Copenhagen πŸ™‚ hehe

Seattle Coffee Gear says:

@HelleRita Are you talking ratios for different kinds of coffee drinks? –
Kat

HelleRita says:

Hi My friend has a Seaco Talens Ring Plus and I can make a double shot in
one go, which ends up being a very nice large mug of coffee. Can this one
do the same, please? It seems to do it all, but a large “normal” coffee,
can this be done too?

HelleRita says:

Fire up that old Toyota, come to Copenhagen and open a shop. Promise, I
will be your first customer :-)))) I tried to google the term “coffee
lenght or milk lenght”. Didn’t quite get it. Do you have a video on that??

HelleRita says:

The model I look at in Copenhagen is the same as you are showing (no finger
print). And yes, I have neither the knowledge and time for a “perfect”
shot. And YES – roadtrip Kat …. ALL the way to denmark πŸ™‚ You seem to
sell AT lot of different machines. I wonder which models the most comes in
for repair :-)))

watcherjohnny says:

@kragier Jump in!! (and feel free to take my side!)
