Bunn Coffee Maker Leaks Water and How To Fix It

Oftentimes leaks indicate the need for maintenance or cleaning. It’s not at all uncommon for people to complain of their Bunn coffee maker leaking hot water. In fact we’ve heard from quite a few people who have fixed this same problem. It might seem intimidating at first to attempt a DIY repair job. Especially if its’ a new model. Fortunately, you don’t have to know how to disassemble a coffee machine to or find out how it works make it work properly again.

Leaking can be the result of one or more of the following causes:
• Improper maintenance or care.
• Normal wear and tear.
• Deterioration of seals or gaskets within your brewer that naturally occur over time.
• Accumulation of mineral deposits from your water. Clean your brewer regularly.

Depending on what type of brewer you have Bunn offers videos which explain how to clean and maintain the device as well as fixing leaks. Water deposits are a very common cause and can be removed with household items such as vinegar and a small poking tool like a toothpick. Running vinegar through the coffee cycle will often work wonders to getting your machine running better. If you find it still isn’t functioning as it should or worse is still leaking at this point then you will have to take it apart for cleaning.
A good deep cleaning is recommended for your machine every 3 to 4 months. Here is a great video on how to do that.

This Youtube video below shows a quick, easy, inexpensive fix to your leaking Bunn coffee maker.

On Monday, July 4th I sent Bunn an email that while out of town for four days, my coffeemaker leaked on my counter top causing seepage in the seam and the Formica buckling as a result,” Michelle told ConsumerAffairs.com. “I have not even received the courtesy of a response. I have been in the retail industry for over 30 years and fully understand brand loyalty. I have even been on the buying end of appliances and a staunch advocate for Bunn, noting it is the best of the best.”

Great tip on repair. Whereas yours is partially damaged mine was completely ate up in the whole circle. I was at hardware store and found a food grade silicone grommet for $.50 that filled the entire void. I did have to sand down the top and bottom pretty thin to get the nut back on which took a whole 5 minutes. Once fitted a small amount of Krazy glue was applied to keep it in place….it is non-toxic. This now served as the top and bottom seal gaskets . The stainless washer was reused with the nut. Grommet is good for 400 degrees so should last a while. Thanks again.
